Galena area is a little like Yellowstone Park

Looks like the Galena area and Yellowstone National Park have a few things in common. Gorgeous views, great outdoor activities and now black bear. You read that right....there have been a black bear or two sited in the area. The news even made it on Fark.com. You can read more about this unusual and exciting news at http://www.journalstandard.com/homepage/x488803717.

We thought we'd pass it along to our web friends, ust in case you needed a new reason to travel to Galena. If we can learn to speak bear, we'll ask it to stop by Poopsie's for a photo shoot.

Check back again to see if more there is more bear excitement to come.

Change The World For Ten Bucks...

The book Change the World for Ten Bucks delights and engages at every turn. It is a book of simple, everyday actions that we can all do. It includes a postcard to send to someone who inspires you, two pages stuck together (don't throw your gum in the street!), tear-out tabs to make introductions to the neighbors, and dozens of other creative prompts for positive change.

Here is a little background on the book. In 2004, a London-based community organization called We Are What We Do launched with the publication of a little book with a big idea: 50 simple actions to make the world a better place. Since then, Change the World for Ten Bucks has spawned a movement, multiple editions, and sales of over one million copies internationally. At last, here's the U.S. edition.

Possibilities are endless....what do you think you could do??

Dubuque Humane Society & Poopsie's

Poopsie's is teaming up with the Dubuque Humane Society to help some of our furry friends. There are an abundance of pets that go through the Dubuque Humane Society and we want to help them with their efforts. So we are having a SHOP AND SHARE weekend.

All you have to do is SHOP...and we will do all of the SHARING! That's right, we will donate 10% of your sale on Friday April 17, Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19 back to the Dubuque Humane Society to help them care for pets.
Right now they have a major....Cat Overpopulation! The amount of cats at our shelter is currently out of control. So if you have been thinking about a fuzzy little foot warmer, now is the perfect time. Just go to http://www.dbqhumane.org/ for more information.

Pocket Angels

Angels can play such an important part in people's lives. We have been carrying pocket angels at Poopsie's for many years now. And over the years we have been told some truly touching stories of how one simple little pocket angel has changed someone's life. We are starting to feel guilty that only we get to hear these wonderful stories, so we thought we'd take it to our blog. Hopefully some of you have purchased or received a pocket angel and have seen the remarkable changes it can bring. We would LOVE for you to share your stories with all of us.

Pocket angels are not just a simple token to hide away in your pocket. These tokens are a small gift with a huge impact. They are a constant reminder of an inner strength, a loved one, or the hope of tomorrow. People have been eagerly sharing their stories with us at the store, and we are now asking for our blogging crowd to share stories too.

Just yesterday we received a new angel...the Awareness Angel. There is an awareness ribbon on one side and an angel on the other. There are also hearts, X & O's, 5 Rules of Happiness and more.... Click here to see them all.

We really hope you will share your stories with us. If you don't want to post your story on our blog, feel free to email your story to us at info@poopsies.com.
Thanks, Poopsie's

Save the Boobies!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Poopsie's wants to be sure everyone is getting their Boobies checked...that goes for you men too.

According to the Susan G Komen site, "Getting tested regularly is the best way for women to lower their risk of dying from breast cancer. Screening tests can find breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. In this section of About Breast Cancer, we discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each of the standard screening tests used today—mammography (including digital mammography), MRI, clinical breast exam and breast self-exam. We also discuss what happens if a test shows something abnormal."

If you are able to visit us during the month of October, you will see that we ALL wear an extra set of Pink Boobies during the month. It makes for a great way to spread the word and to be honest we really like the extra attention :)

We also have Save the Boobies and Save the Tatas shirts available for customers. Proceeds from the shirts will be donated to Susan G Komen foundation during the month of October. All pocket token proceeds will also be donated to the Susan G Komen foundation.

We hope you will go out and do your part in spreading the word about Breast Cancer Awareness this month. You never know...you just might save a life! Wouldn't that be the best!

Here are a couple great sites for gathering information about Breast Cancer and the many ways we fight against this disease.

A New Favorite Friend!

We have a new favorite at Poopsie's! Elvis the Lion by Beeposh has to be one of the cutest and snuggliest friends one can have. He is made of fleece...so he's super soft...and he has a wild mane. Maybe it's the fact that he is a bit unruly that makes us love him so.

Love the stripes!!!

Why Play Is Important

We believe play is very important for children of all ages. Play is how children have fun, acquire skills, experience success, and build self-esteem. Play helps children figure out the world and where and how they fit in. Play is also a great stress-reliever and in today's fast moving world that is very important.

According to ASTRA Toy, "through Play children practice, reinforce and remember what they are learning."
It is an important building block for life. So Poopsie's would like to challenge you to spend a couple extra moments with your children and just Play...you might even have a little fun yourself!

“Children have to play with what they know to be true in order to find out more, and then they can use what they learn in new forms of play.”

Kids Helping Flood Victims

A little fruit punch can go a long way.!!

Here is a wonderful group of kids that wanted to do something to help people impacted by this year's flooding. After a little bit of pondering they decided to set up a fruit punch and chocolate covered pretzels stand. After a day of fun in the sun, they raised $44.00!

They knew Poopsie's was collecting money to aid those impacted too, so they brought theirs to us. We were so impressed and proud that we raised their $44.00 to $100.

Way to go kids!! Keep up the good work. We hope you all enjoyed your goodie bags :)

If you would like to help aid those impacted by the flooding, we have included a couple links for you. Red Cross and 2008 Flood Resource Center.
